For more than four decades – or, more precisely, since the firm was established in 1965 – LÓPEZ-EBRI®, with its innovative, refreshing ideas and technological progressiveness, has confirmed its leading position within the European translation industry time and time again. Expertise, advanced technologies and aspiring to be a little better every day are what stand out down through the company’s history. This is the background to our high standards of quality and our great motivation.
We followed the principle of dual control as a pillar of quality assurance from the outset, 40 years before the principle became a stipulation of the new European standard DIN EN 15038.
In 1970 the typewriters were whisked away from the desks at LÓPEZ-EBRI® Fachübersetzungen GmbH to be replaced by the first IBM word processors.
In 1983 the first documented system for quality assurance in the company came into being. This marked the beginning of a new era. Databases were created, consistency of terminology ensured and more reliable results were produced. With that, the company had taken the step up to "quality of service" in today’s sense of the phrase. This all happened long before the concept of quality assurance was conceived in the early 90s.
IT project management is one element of a documented quality system. As such, ProMan was the first IT project management system in the industry, and was specially developed for LÓPEZ-EBRI®. This milestone came in 1985.
1995 marked the start of the first wave of ISO certifications. In terms of quality, LOPEZ-EBRI® had already laid solid foundations in the preceding years. Within two weeks the company became the first in the industry in Europe to pass the audit and be certified to ISO 9002.
Raising the standard of quality within the translation industry has always been a major ambition of Enrique López-Ebri, the company founder. It was on his initiative that the QSD (Qualitätssprachendienste Deutschland e. V.), an association bringing together translation companies committed to the quality concept, was founded in 1997.
Computer Aided Translation and the latest IT technologies were introduced to LÓPEZ-EBRI® from the mid to late 90s and have been regularly upgraded since then. Besides expertise, LOPEZ-EBRI® has always insisted on the most advanced technologies to streamline processes and cut costs in the customers’ interests.
After the ISO 9002 standard was revised, LOPEZ-EBRI® was again the first in the industry to bring its quality system into line with the new standard ISO 9001:2000 and to pass the audit and obtain certification.
In 2004 LOPEZ-EBRI® moved out of its old offices and into the "glass ellipse" in the Technology Park beside the University of Bremen. They are ideal surroundings to encourage even more creativity, greater efficiency and better use of the effects of synergy.
Not only did LOPEZ-EBRI® play a crucial part in developing the new European standard DIN EN 15038; it was also audited and certified to the standard for translation services after it was introduced. In doing so, the company continues to pave the way for the industry.
It is the way to quality and improvement on a continual basis, and we follow it unwaveringly in the interest of our customers' success. After all, our customers' success is also our success!
